FDI 1.2 preview USB Image: Overall, the process works. I did have some hiccups towards the end and I explain how I resolved them.
TL;DR: FDI USB Image works but be sure to write the MBR using fdisk /MBR:80 at the end of the install process.

USB Drive
It's a no name 1GB drive I was given for purchasing my kids' Christmas photos on USB instead of print back in 2013.
Here's how OSX sees the drive after flashing it.
Here I'm transferring the image to the drive.

Issue
At the end of the above video the MSI Wind goes into reboot cycle. From what I could tell, by default, fdisk & sys did not update the MBR on the hard drive. Also, the USB mounted as C: and the 120GB hard drive as a D:. In the BIOS, I forced the USB drive to A: but no luck in installing and sys'ing, even passing /BOTH to sys. My fix was to install the MBR using fdisk (fdisk /MBR:80).
