We Christians sometimes act and speak as if we had never actually listened to Jesus. We often form our ideas and beliefs in direct contradiction to his, and we will defend our dogmas to the death. We theologize as if his teachings were utterly irrelevant. We frequently think of Jesus (although nobody would actually say this) as if he were only a Savior, not a Teacher--a Savior whose job it is to shut up and die so I can get to heaven by-and-by. But since we are supposed to be disciples (which simply means "students"), this causes an enormous problem. We are so-called students of a Teacher whom we largely ignore. This book is my attempt at remedying that problem in myself. I have taken the most important teaching sections from each of the four Gospels and presented them, not as "bible verses," but as teachings of the Teacher. It is my hope to begin taking Jesus seriously as a teacher. I wrote this book to help me believe what he believes, think like he thinks, and live like he lives.
