Long Island's Ghosts Among Us

Hidden among the strip malls, fast food restaurants and concrete parking lots that now constitute most of the Long Island landscape are the remnants of a time and life that have long since passed. They stand in the shadows of the ever expanding urban sprawl that has marched relentlessly through Long Island, disappearing symbols of our history. And ancient house on the fringe of a new development, and abandoned tractor on the side of the road or a patch of weeds that was once part of a thriving farm. All parts of our history that are quickly disappearing and once gone, unable to be replaced. These are the ghosts among us.

This section contains images of our Long Island history that is at risk of soon disappearing. They are here today but may soon be gone tomorrow.
