The food store established in 1962 currently has 34 market cups of stores and four lucky seven ordinary supermarkets and employs 2,200 affiliated companies. Its head office is in Nederland, Texas.
Johnnie Alford, Ed Hughes, Howard Hatfield, Roy Theriot and Bruce Thompson were on the markets in early 1962. Everyone was independent of groceries, who had one store. Five food huts were connected to keep advertising costs low and to combine their purchasing power. Three grocery stores remained a supermarket operator, while Hughes and Thompson formed 50-50 companies to expand their joint venture.
Thompson and Hughes bought four stores in the 1960s. In the early 1970s, former A & P, Kroger and Weingarten stores acquired stores in Lake Charles, Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange. In 1983, Bruce Thompson Hughes bought interest in his jointly held company.
