Assessment Guidelines for Project Presentations
The purpose of this course is to provide you, the student, with some of the practical fundamentals of Mechanical Fabrication Technology. This experience is fundamental to the manufacturing industry. This course familiarizes students with various machine tools, hand tools, and safe and proper workshop procedures and practice. It entails the production of a sample project.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will:
Know safe and proper workshop procedures and practice.
Be able to identify and use various machine tools and hand tools for executing simple projects.
Discuss and describe the use of various machines and tools in the manufacturing industry.
Perform various measurements required for manufacture and assembly.
Perform standard bench operations.
Understand the importance of shop drawings, computers, and automation in the manufacturing industry.
Throughout this course, you'll also see related learning outcomes identified in each unit. You can use these learning outcomes to help you further organize your learning and gauge your progress.
Completion of all units.
Successful completion of all course assessment tasks, including tests.
Fabrication of an assigned project.
Successful presentation of your fabricated project.to the class at the end of the term.
Successful completion of the final examination.
Your final grade for this course will be determined as follows:
Assessment Percentage

Project 50%
Final Exam 30%

Begin the Fabrication Project: Prepare the workpiece for layout:
1 Cut steel stock to size.
2 Remove all sharp edges.
3. Spray paint the layout side of the part.
4 Let dry (1 day).
5. Layout the part on the workpiece.
6 Begin to shape the part.

2 Cut rod stem and handle to size.
Tap and thread rod and frame.
1 Drill stem and assemble handle.
