This part of the course emphasizes critical thinking and deep reading. You'll use the journal to participate in class, so it's part of your participation grade.

Keep in mind:
"A work" means a substantive (2 or 3 key points for shorter work, more for longer works) entry for each piece we read or hear.
Summary is not analysis. Summarize just enough in the first column to anchor your original analysis in column 2 and questions for class in column 3.
Use my sample journal page as guidance for what is good/not good work.
You must also reply to a classmate's journal every MWF. Try to pick a different classmate each time.
All journals are "anyone can edit," so make a backup locally.
