Here are some of the tasks we'll be doing during group work. Find them interesting? Then, join us.
M 11/16: In which fields is English the "official language?"
T 11/17: Tell a story (write a story problem) about the fraction 1/2. Draw a picture to fit the story.
Here's an example:
Sally took the last five brownies for a snack. Her older brother grabbed the brownies for her hand and ran to the den to watch TV.
Sally yelled up the stairs to her mother. “Mom, Chuck stoll my brownies.”
Mom yelled back, “Chuck!”
Chuck hollered back, “What, Ma?”
Mom yells, “Give Sally back her brownies.”
“Why, Ma?” Chuck asked. “Sally took the last brownies, and I’m hungry. Ma, I’m a growing boy.”
“Chuck, you’re older you must share with your sister. Give her back half of the brownies,” said Mom.
“Ok,” replied Chuck. Chuck took the brownies to the kitchen and divided the five brownies into two piles – one pile for Sally and one pile for him. What do the piles look like?
W 11/18: William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) wrote poems about WWI and the devastation he saw. Read the poem "The Second Coming." Read about Yeats life.
R 11/19: Compound sentence is made of two sets of simple sentences that are held together with a comma and a coordinating conjunction (and, or, but, for, so, nor). For example:
The slow turtle paddled slowly across the lake, and he beat the quick large fish to the other side.
Your turn. Write a compound sentence.
F 11/20: We'll continue with our exploration of communication skills in the workplace with "Coping Skills" and "Time Log." The afternoon group is reading Robinson Crusoe. The next chapter is 15.
