On May 7, 1968 I was blessed with a beautiful gift. My baby boy was perfect in every way. Everything I knew he would be as I awaited his arrival. What glorious joy he brought into our lives.
As his first year went by he amazed us as he accomplished all of his “firsts” early.
He was so alert and such a happy baby. He walked at 9 months and was running by the time he was a year old.
By the end of his second year he could count to 10 and knew all of his colors. I can remember sitting with him with his colored blocks. I would pick them up and he would say “RED, GREEN, BLUE, LELLO”. It was such a joy to watch him grow.
When he was 23 months old he became the BIG BROTHER to “Zander”. When he was four years old, he was BIG BROTHER again (he could say John). He seemed to love this roll. Oh the stories I could tell of my three sons.
It was a joy to watch him grow into an adult. He joined his beloved Marine Corps and I waited the four years for him to return home to Michigan. What was I thinking? How could he come back to Michigan after he had experienced California?
How he loved his new home and it was a lovely place to visit.
In 1998 because of him (and of course, Irene) I became a grandmother. Our Princess Lisa was another JOY that I got to experience because of him.
In 2001 another blessed event Rex (as he is now called) and his wife Amy had Remington Daniel Rexroad. He was another JOY to our family.
I love being a grandmother and am able to have the experience because of MY GIFT.
His accomplishments are many and being his mother has been 44 years of joy and pride.
My heart is breaking but I can give thanks to God for giving me the privilege of being the mother of Lionel Britton Rexroad II for the short time he was on this earth.
All of you are here because you loved him too. Let’s celebrate his short life and be thankful for all of the Joy and Love we have been blessed with because of him. I love you all because you loved my precious gift.
