Today, Wednesday, Feb. 5th, there will be two hearings important to the LGBT community and people of faith. Please attend these hearings if at all possible, and testify if you can. Clergy, come in your collars, stoles, whatever sets you off in your faith tradition.
9am: House State Affairs "Religious Freedom Act:" a bill that would protect licensed professionals in the State of Idaho from losing their licensure or being censured for denying professional services to anyone who is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender based on their religious beliefs. This specifically includes, but is not limited to: doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, teachers, social workers, psychologists, and more......
1:30 pm: House Judiciary Faith Healing bill. This bill is supported by the Interfaith Alliance of Idaho and would provide protection of children by adding one sentence to the Criminal Code on Injury to Children, paragraph 4, stating that parents or guardians may choose to exercise their faith practices, prayer and meditation to heal a child, but if the child is in danger of dying or having a permanent disability because of refusal to seek medical care, the parent or guardian is no longer exempt.
