Calculus for Business - Fully Online Course
About:
This course is designed as a terminal mathematics course for Business majors at UC Riverside. In the course, we begin with a review of precalculus topics then introduce essential concepts and techniques for differentiation, integration, and functions of multiple variables. By the design of the curriculum, the course is required to have a brisk, survey-style pace. I developed this course in Summer 2019 to be delivered in a fully online format along with Matthew Overduin, a fellow graduate student at UC Riverside. Linked below are the videos for which I delivered the presentation, produced the overlays, and developed the general format.
Chapter 2: Differentiation
Section 1: The Derivative and the Slope of a Graph
Section 3: Rates of Change and Marginals
Section 4: The Product and Quotient Rules
Section 5: The Chain Rule
Section 6: Higher-Order Derivatives
Section 8: Related Rates
Chapter 3: Applications of the Derivative
Section 2: Extrema and the First-Derivative Test
Section 4: Optimization Problems
Section 5: Business and Economics Applications
Chapter 4: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
Section 5: Derivative of Logarithmic Functions
Section 6: Exponential Growth and Decay
Chapter 5: Integration and its Applications
Section 3: Exponential and Logarithmic Integrals
Section 5: The Area of a Region Bounded by Two Graphs
Chapter 7: Functions of Several Variables
Microtutorials in Mathematics (Calculus)
About:
The Microtutorials in Mathematics project, directed by Dr. Yat Sun Poon and funded by the Office of the Provost at UC Riverside, produces videos to be used by instructors in calculus courses. In the videos, we present solutions to word problems, many of which require techniques from calculus to be applied to biology, medicine, physics, engineering, or business. The intention is for these to supplement the material covered in lecture by the instructors. Linked below are some of the videos that feature me as an actor and script writer.
Selected videos:
Oscillating Population - Squeeze theorem
Continuity of a Piecewise-Defined Function - One-sided limits
Determining Length of Fish - Separable differential equation and limit at infinity
Area of a Circular Sector - Integration by trigonometric substitution
