Blanche McManus

The ONLY PRINTING of the 2 books published by Mansfield & Wessels was in 1899. (shown above) The Second Printing was in Mustard Cloth and the Copyright was 1900 by Wessels only! There are a number of reasons why there was a difference. Firstly Wessels took over the Company late in 1899 & secondly an error in the contents listing needed clarification (Number of Colour Plates in "LOOKING GLASS" Was stated as 12 in error, there were only 10) so, publication was stopped after the 1st printing and published again in early 1900, but in the different colour cloth, new cover designs, & correction of the error.

The other book shown is the first combined edition published later in 1900 by A Wessels Company,

W H Walker

Published by John Lane in 1907, some copies were bound in leather.

Binding variants of the 1907 first edition:

There are around five different binding variants of the first edition: leather; suede (the ‘American’ edition described by Lovett); blue cloth with a multi-coloured, gilt-decorated White Rabbit picture (as above); the same but without the gilt; and paper-covered boards with a Cheshire Cat design. The bindings vary slightly in size. (Note that copies in red, green or blue cloth with a black pictorial of the White Rabbit, and with ‘Ltd’ after the publisher’s name, are reprints.) (silver-gryph)

Brinsley Le Fanu

Published by Benn in c1907 in one volume, the books shown are the two volume set at one penny each published at the same time. Le Fanu's illustrations were also used for the1910 Esparanto edition of Alice. ( La Aventuroj de Alicio en Mirlando ) published by the British Esperanto Association.
