For anyone who has read the Bible, the flames destroying California are reminiscent of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Roughly 30,000 acres were aflame, at least five people dead and more than 200,000 were without power across the wider Los Angeles area. Tens of thousands of residents were ordered to leave their homes.
Over 2,000 structures were damaged as the blazes remained largely uncontained since the beginning on Tuesday, January 7, 2024, stretching the region’s firefighting resources to their limits.
Nearly every corner of the sprawling Los Angeles area, home to some 10 million people, was smothered by a sky of smoke and ash.

SODOME ET GOMORRHE -

Pour quiconque a lu la Bible, les flammes qui détruisent la Californie rappellent l'histoire de Sodome et Gomorrhe.
Près de 30 000 hectares sont en feu, au moins cinq personnes sont mortes et plus de 200 000 personnes sont privées d'électricité dans la région de Los Angeles. Des dizaines de milliers d'habitants ont reçu l'ordre de quitter leur domicile.
Plus de 2 000 structures ont été endommagées alors que les incendies n'ont pratiquement pas été maîtrisés depuis le début mardi le 7 janvier 2024, mettant à rude épreuve les ressources de lutte contre les incendies de la région.
Presque tous les coins de la région tentaculaire de Los Angeles, où vivent quelque 10 millions de personnes, ont été étouffés par un ciel de fumée et de cendres.

L’ÉTAT AMÉRICAIN DU CANADA…

La suggestion de Donald Trump de faire du Canada le 51e État américain ne vient pas de lui, mais remonte aussi loin que les Patriotes de 1837-38, sinon encore plus loin avec les tentatives d'annexion du Canada par les États-Unis à l'époque coloniale, notamment avec l'invasion de Québec en 1774-1775.
Est-ce que l’idée de Donald tient la route en 2024?
D’abord le Canada ne serait pas un seul état, mais bien une dizaine car le territoire est trop vaste et trop divisé.
Par contre, ce débat et la situation politique actuelle à Ottawa pourrait donner un regain de vie au sentiment nationaliste des Québécois, mais pas pour joindre les États-Unis et plutôt devenir indépendant du Canada…
En conclusion, bien que l'idée d'annexer le Canada ne soit pas nouvelle, la proposition actuelle de Trump semble être plus une provocation qu'un projet réaliste et Donald s’amuse...

Donald Trump's suggestion that Canada become the 51st U.S. state did not originate with him, but goes back as far as the Patriotes of 1837-38, if not even further, with attempts by the U.S. to annex Canada dating back to colonial times, notably with the invasion of Quebec in 1774-1775.
Will Donald's idea hold water in 2024?
First, Canada would not be a single state but ten or so because the territory is too vast and divided.
On the other hand, this debate and the current political situation in Ottawa could breathe new life into Quebecers' nationalist feelings, not to join the United States, but to become independent from Canada...
In conclusion, although the idea of annexing Canada is not new, Trump's proposal seems more provocation than a realistic project, and Donald is having fun...

L'HISTOIRE SE RÉPÈTE...

Le jour de l'an 2025, j'ai écouté les chansons de La Bolduc, une artiste Gaspésienne qui s'est fait connaître au Québec dans les années 1920-1930.
Née à Newport, près de Gaspé, son père, Lawrence Travers, était un anglophone d'origine irlandaise, et sa mère, Adéline Cyr, était d'origine canadienne-française et micmaque.
Ma mère était elle aussi une Cyr… Il faudrait fouiller la généalogie pour découvrir si j’ai un lien de parenté directe avec la chanteuse...
Les chansons de La Bolduc racontaient l'histoire de son époque, et j'ai été surpris de constater qu'en 2024, nous sommes toujours aux prises avec les mêmes problèmes politiques et sociaux qu'il y a 100 ans !
Les débats sans fin des politiciens entre eux, le manque d’emplois, les immigrants qui sont trop nombreux, la lutte des pauvres contre les riches, le coût de l'épicerie, le stress de la vie urbaine, et plusieurs de ses chansons parlent de nos relations étroites, constantes, mais mouvementées avec notre voisin les États-Unis et les Américains…
Le temps passe mais l'histoire se répète...
L'œuvre de La Bolduc comprend l'enregistrement d'une centaine de ses nombreuses chansons.

On New Year's Day 2025, I listened to the songs of La Bolduc, a Gaspé artist who made a name for herself in Quebec in the 1920s and 1930s.
Born in Newport, near Gaspé, her father, Lawrence Travers, was an Anglophone of Irish descent, and her mother, Adéline Cyr, was of French-Canadian and Mi'kmaq descent.
My mother was also a Cyr... I'd have to search the genealogy to find out if I'm directly related to the singer...
La Bolduc's songs told the story of her time, and I was surprised to find that in 2024, we're still grappling with the same political and social problems as we were 100 years ago!
The endless debates between politicians, the lack of jobs, too many immigrants, the struggle of the poor against the rich, the cost of groceries, the stress of city life, and many of his songs speak of our close and constant, but turbulent, relationship with our neighbor the United States and Americans...
Time passes, but history repeats itself...
La Bolduc's oeuvre includes recordings of some one hundred of her many songs.

Si la politique d'Ottawa était un match de football, on pourrait dire que Justin Trudeau a fait une passe « Hail Mary »...
Une passe « Hail Mary » est une très longue passe vers l'avant, généralement faite en désespoir de cause, avec très peu de chances de réussite. Elle est généralement tentée à la fin d'une mi-temps ou d'un match, lorsque l'équipe est trop éloignée de la zone d'en-but pour exécuter un jeu plus conventionnel.
Justin n'a pas dit qu'il partait ! Il a dit qu'il avait « l'intention » de partir lorsque son parti aurait un nouveau chef.
Que se passera-t-il si, le 25 mars, le parti n'a pas de nouveau chef et qu'une élection est convoquée ?
Justin resterait légalement à la tête du parti et mènerait alors la campagne.
Peu de candidats sérieux accepteront de se présenter à la tête du parti libéral, car les chances de victoire sont minces, voire nulles.
Justin est en train de jouer sa dernière stratégie dans le football de la politique d'Ottawa... et Donald Trump s'amuse dans les estrades...

JUSTIN TRUDEAU IS STILL IN THE GAME...

If Ottawa politics were a football game, you could say Justin Trudeau made a “Hail Mary” pass...
A “Hail Mary” pass is a very long forward pass, usually made in desperation, with little chance of success. It's traditionally attempted at the end of a half or at the end of a game when the team is too far from the end zone to execute a more conventional play.
Justin didn't say he was leaving! He said he “intends” to leave when his party has a new leader.
What happens if, on March 25, the party doesn't have a new leader and an election is called?
Justin would legally remain the leader and run the campaign.
Few candidates will agree to run for the leadership of the Liberal party, as the chances of victory are slim to none.
Justin is playing his last play in the football of Ottawa politics…
and Donald Trump has fun in the stands.

Justin Trudeau aura décidé d’abandonner le combat.
Il y avait deux stratégies possibles.
La première option était de rester chef du parti et déclencher une élection.
L’autre option, démissionner et abandonner la politique.
Justin demeure en poste jusqu’au choix d’un prochain chef libéral durant les prochains mois.
Personnellement, je lui aurais conseillé de rester et d’aller en élection.
Il n’a pas suivi mon option…
Une rumeur a commencé à circuler à Ottawa que Justin pourrait se représenter dans une course à la chefferie, comme son père l’avait fait en 1980…

Elon Musk celebrated the end of 2024 on December 31 with his family at Mar-A-Lago with Donald and Melania. He also played a practical joke on his 210 million followers on X-Twitter by changing his profile name to “Kekius Maximus” for a day. He also changed his profile photo to an image of the popular character Pepe the Frog dressed in gladiator armor, inspired by the film THE GLADIATOR starring Russel Crowe.
Musk's X-subscribers were shocked or charmed...
But as all good things must end, the costume ball lasted only until the end of the year...
On January 1, Elon reverted to his real identity and placed a real photo of himself as his avatar. He said he had some serious business to attend to in Washington over the next few months, in the company of his friend Donald!

La vie est une aventure et la nouvelle année 2025 devrait être excitante!
Bien sûr, rien n'est jamais acquis, mais l'instinct est l’outil pour bien comprendre la vie et il faut savoir découvrir et écouter son instinct pour profiter de la vie! L'instinct est capable de prévoir les événements en se basant sur notre expérience passée. Ce concept est d'ailleurs exactement celui de l'intelligence artificielle, la technologie actuellement à la mode, laquelle est capable de lire des textes en prévoyant les phrases à venir selon son expérience de lecture passée...
La question ultime: "Est-ce que l'instinct de l'intelligence artificielle (la machine) va dépasser l’instinct humain?
La réponse viendra rapidement, car comme l’a écrit Henry Kissinger(1923- 2023) dans son dernier livre GENESIS, depuis l'avènement de l'intelligence artificielle, les technologies de société qui avaient autrefois une durée de vie d'une vingtaine d'années n'atteindront plus aujourd'hui qu'une ou deux années, avant de céder la place à d’autres innovations, à cause justement du pouvoir de l'intelligence artificielle.
Qui sait ce que sera la société de demain? Au final, les événements de la vie sont comme les arbres d'une forêt. Il nous faut regarder au-delà d'un seul arbre et prendre conscience de l'immensité des options, obstacles et opportunités. J'aime beaucoup le concept, que j'ai découvert de mon fils David-Bernard, pour résumer la vie: AMOR FATI (amour du destin)...
De la part des « TROIS ESPRITS » (les mascottes Argos, Ulysse et Gus) et de moi-même, nos meilleurs vœux d'une bonne année 2025 et surtout bonne chance...

Life is an adventure, and the new year 2025 should be exciting!
Of course, nothing can be taken for granted, but instinct is the tool for understanding life, and you have to know how to discover and listen to your instinct to enjoy life! Instinct is the ability to predict events based on experience. This is exactly the concept behind artificial intelligence, the technology currently in vogue, which can read texts and predict future sentences based on past reading experience...
The ultimate question: “Will artificial intelligence (the machine) instinct surpass human instinct? The answer will come quickly, for as Henry Kissinger (1923- 2023) wrote in his latest book GENESIS, since the advent of artificial intelligence, societal technologies that once had a lifespan of twenty years or so are now down to one or two, giving way to other innovations, precisely because of the power of artificial intelligence.
Who knows what tomorrow's society will be like? In the end, life's events are like trees in a forest. We must look beyond a single tree and realize the immensity of the options, obstacles, and opportunities. I like the concept I discovered from my son David-Bernard, to sum up life: AMOR FATI (love of destiny)...
