Le Pouch is one of a handful of houses, including a farm, in a small hamlet in Ferrussac. None of the houses has a name of its own, which can be a bit confusing. Let's just say this may not be the grandest, but we think it's the prettiest.
Roquecor, a hilltop village, is about 5km away with a convenience store, tree-shaded cafe and a little Sunday market.
Montaigu-de-Quercy is also about 5km away, with an Intermarche that opens on Sunday mornings, a newsagent, boulangerie, bank, hardware store and assorted other shops. It has a good market on a Saturday morning. There is also a little lido with a cafe.
Bourg de Visa is a little further away, with a Credit Agricole bank and little garden centre..
Further afield,
Villeneuve sur Lot, about 30 minutes away, is a thriving town with plenty of shops and restaurants.
Penne d'Agenais, just outside Villeneuve, is a pretty hilltop village with several cafes.
Agen, the biggest town in the area, has a railway station and is about 45 minutes away.
Montcuq, about 30 minutes away, has a fabulous Sunday market. It is on the way to Cahors, about 50 minutes from the house, another big town with a good market.
Cahors and Bergerac: do the names remind you of anything? Yes, this is wine-growing world...there are plenty of vineyards to visit and wines to sample.
If you are feeling energetic, there are plenty of opportunities for canoeing and
cycling.
