LEGUTKY

LEGUTKY variant has been seen in records of Slovakia and Switzerland.

04/2011: I am very excited to report that I have been contacted by a LEGUTKY family from the Czech Republic. I was able to track them down through a link from the Milan Legutky photographic web pages (see below). I was able to construct a partial family from the information on the pages, and contacted some of the names listed. I have since found out that they are from Siemiechów! They are definitely cousins! With the information they have shared with me, I have found that their ancestor left a family in Poland to find work in Pennsylvania. His brother is the immigrant ancestor of the families described on the Legutki page (link to the left) that moved to Ohio, Nevada, and possibly Florida. The work continues!

We are tracing the family of Milan LEGUTKY. Milan LEGUTKY was the co-author of the photo collection book, "Tatry bez Hranic." A selection of the pictures from the book can be seen at: http://fotky.sme.sk/album/5986/milan-legutky

It appears that Milan's pictures were posted by his son, Michal. Another son, Andrej, is featured in an article about his climbing ministry. http://www.webjournal.sk/clanok/118/andrej-legutky-ja-si-myslim-ze-duchovno-k-horam-a-k-lezeniu-patri

Part of my family stories indicate that one of the LEGUTKI boys went to live in the mountains during or after the war. Perhaps he was the ancestor of the LEGUTKY that are in Eastern Europe. I have been told they final vowel "i" was changed to "y" in Eastern Europe to make the name appear more local rather than of Polish ancestry.
