Our "new car" (another first-generation RX7) was graciously provided by Bob. In preparation for an upcoming race, Wally took-on the task of "shaking-down" the new car at Buttonwillow. Itwas a reunion of sorts,as Chuck's #51 car made an appearance with its new owner, Ron, while Carl, Chris, and Bob were all there to either race or hone their skills.
All looked good until the "car with flames" lived-up to its livery and broke-out in an engine fire... Of course, we got it fixed-up and back on the track, just in time for the rainstorms. Wally soldiered-on, sacrificing cleanliness in the name of race preparation.
We didn't let a small engine fire ruin our day - we saw it as an opportunity to rid the engine compartment of excess wiring.
the RX7 contingent kept the fire crew and tow truck busy, as well as using the black-flag officials' services
Wally did a little off-road / rallycross practice. Somehow, he didn't get stuck in the mud.
Carl wasn't as lucky; he needed a tow to get out of the muck
