What is LASIK surgery?

We know laser in situ keratomileusis by its more identifiable acronym: LASIK. One of the modern examples of laser eye surgery in St. Louis at Brinton Vision is Sub-Bowman keratomileusis (SBK), or “bladeless LASIK.” SBK is used quite successfully to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

SBK uses a precise laser technology called a femtosecond laser, which is produces more precise and predictable results. The technology has also opened the door to LASIK eye to patients who have not been candidates for LASIK in the past.

What is Wavefront Technology?

State-of-the-art wavefront-guided and -optimized LASIK And Astigmatism St Louis helps Brinton Vision map the cornea in fine detail for custom treatments that preserves the shape of the cornea. That means freedom from glasses with less nighttime “halo” effect than with traditional LASIK procedures.

What does LASIK surgery cost?

The cost of LASIK will depend on which of the seven laser eye surgery variations Brinton Vision offers that you qualify for. We recommend you talk to your vision insurance provider to determine if you are eligible for coverage for LASIK; however, be aware that most insurance carriers consider vision correction surgery as elective and will usually not cover the costs. While our focus is always on ensuring you receive thorough and attentive vision care, we are happy to work with you on payment options.

Brinton Vision accepts all standard forms of payment (cash, check, credit card, etc.), and will assist you on covering costs through your health savings account (HSAs) or medical savings account (MSAs). Most laser vision correction procedures are tax-deductible.

We also offer monthly payment options, including:

Zero Down Payment & No Interest for 24 Months

Zero Down Payment & Low Monthly Payments with Fixed Interest Rate for 60 months

What happens in LASIK surgery?

First, Brinton Vision uses a sophisticated and specialized laser to create a precise flap in the cornea. A second laser reshapes the cornea according to your unique prescription. Afterward, the surgeon will smooth the corneal flap into place to self-heal. The whole procedure takes only minutes and is pain-free or nearly pain-free.

The results of LASIK are so predictable and the procedure so safe that Dr. Brinton has performed this eye surgery on thousands of patients, including photographers, professional athletes, artists, surgeons, and other eye doctors.

What can I expect on the day of my LASIK procedure?

You can expect to be at Brinton Vision for about two hours on the day of your surgery, though the procedure itself only lasts about 15 minutes for both eyes. Please arrange to have a driver to take you home after your procedure.

You can dress comfortably in your own clothes, but we’ll provide you with a sanitary blue cap to wear during surgery. We may repeat some tests from your Brinton Vision Ocular Analysis to make sure your procedure is as precise as it can be.

We will apply numbing eye drops when you are ready for surgery, and place an eyelid holder to keep you from blinking during your vision correction procedure. The laser portion takes only about 20 seconds per eye.

What happens after LASIK?

Your surgical technician will give you post-surgical instructions and provide eye shields for you to wear during sleep for the next two nights. This will prevent accidental rubbing or scratching of the eye.

You should not experience pain after LASIK eye surgery, but you may have some blurriness for the first few hours. After that, you should start noticing a huge improvement in your vision. We’ll schedule a next-day follow-up to make sure everything is going as planned, then give you clearance to return to work – free from glasses and contacts!

SMILE

Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) is a minimally invasive variation of laser vision correction surgery that is performed with a single laser in one step. This reduces inflammation, dry eye and the risk of changes to the cornea.

ICL

EVO ICL

Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) is sometimes mistakenly called the implantable contact lens. This surgery involves implanting a collamer microlens behind the iris and is used to treat nearsightedness and/or thin corneas. Collamer is primarily composed of collagen and water. The lens can remain in the eye for a lifetime but can be removed if a change in your vision requires different rea

Inlays

Inlays are a type of refractive surgery technology that can eliminate the need for reading glasses in patients over 40. The lenses are about the size of a pinhead and thinner than a human hair, but do an impressive job of altering the shape of the cornea for better reading vision. Inlays sit on the surface of the eye.

Kamra Inlay

Unlike Inlays, the Kamra inlay is positioned beneath the eye surface. The donut shape of this tiny ring allows light to into the center hole and focus in the eye. The KAMRA inlay is much smaller and thinner than a contact lens – and patients never have to worry about maintaining or removing them.

RLE

Patients aged 50 and older may benefit from Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE). As we age, conditions such as Dysfunctional Lens Syndrome (DLS) reduce visual clarity; patients with DLS may experience problems reading books, phones and computer screens. RLE involves replacing the deteriorating eye lens with a permanent prescription lens implant, making it an ideal permanent alternative to cataract surgery.

Refractive errors are a type of vision problem that makes it hard to see clearly. They happen when the shape of your eye keeps light from focusing correctly on your retina (a light-sensitive layer of tissue in the back of your eye). Refractive errors are the most common type of vision problem.

Visian Toric ICL™

The Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer® Lens) is most often indicated to correct moderate to severe myopia. Dr. Brinton was the first eye surgeon to implant the Visian Toric ICL, and Brinton Vision has inserted more of these lenses than any other practice in North America.
