Swimming : If you want a change from our 12x6 metre pool, Aubeterre, Lisle and St Aulaye all have beaches on the River Dronne with safe swimming. At La Jemaye (20 kms) there is a fresh water lake where windsurfers, pedalos and so forth can be hired. The lake is surrounded by a pine forest affording shade and a wonderful spot for a summer picnic. There is a lovely pool with diving boards in both Verteillac and Riberac.
Tennis : There are tennis courts in Riberac, and St Martial de Viveroles - the key is kept at the local bar.
Cycling : The countryside around La Grange is ideal for cycling. Unlike the southern part of the Dordogne with its cliffs and steep hills, ours is a rolling landscape with rewarding views nonetheless. Traffic is very light on the country roads. Bring your own bike or hire one in town or from us (much cheaper). There are many Chemin Rurale (country paths/bridleways) for those who prefer their cycling strenuous and off road.
Horse Riding : The region is traditional horse country and there are several 'Centres Equestres' in the area. There are two within 5 kms of La Grange, both offering hourly and daily rental as well as special mounted excursions.
Canoeing : In the area, there are several rivers where absolute novices can paddle a kayak in complete safety. It is common to be transported by the hire company to a point upstream whereupon you will embark on the return journey to your car. There are frequent opportunities for rest or picnic along the banks. Most craft are fitted with waterproof containers with just this thought in mind. Be prepared to be distracted by a variety of the region's fauna - from giant dragonflies and kingfishers to water voles and otters.
Fishing : There are 2.3 million anglers in France and fishing is a serious pastime throughout our region. Most riverbanks are accessible and there are both public and private lakes. All one requires is a permit purchased from one of the local tackle shops (permits can be arranged, either prior to your visit, or on arrival). The rivers include Trout, Barbel, Grayling and Char, whilst the lakes and ponds boast Carp, Pike, Perch and Silure (Catfish) which will test the most skilled of anglers.
Tree climbing: where, if you are feeling adventurous, can tackle climbs and swings through the trees! One is en route to Angouleme and the other on the way to Aubeterre, great fun.
