About us

Over 3,000 English Bulldogs have been registered in the Lithuania’s Studbook of Dog Breeds since 1993. The popularity of the breed had grown vastly a few years ago, however, as it is often the case, this did not turn out well for the breed. A lot of damage was done by breeders who where puppy-millers and their irresponsible profit-seeking breeding, their ignorance of the health of the dam and the puppies, their re-sale deals and manipulations with pedigrees. This has affected the local opinion towards the breed of the English bulldog and Lithuanian breeders as well as the reputation of Lithuanian breeders world-wide. It has been a process of several years that the lovers of the English bulldog have been gathering on-line at www.bulldogs.fan.lt and discussing the need for a change and their own club of the breed. This year was crucial for several enthusiasts who finally felt ready to take action and gathered to the Constituent Assembly in Sventoji on 25 September 2010. During the Assembly they unanimously decided to establish The Bulldog Club of Lithuania. Alina Smailiene (kennel “Bolidas”), Laimute Unikaite, Ausra Miltenyte and Naglis Zegunis (kennel “Gamtos Isdaiga”) became Members of the Board; Edita Zeromskiene (kennel “Albiono Stebuklas”) was elected President of the Club. The Club was officially registered with the Register of Legal Entities on 11 October 2010.

We hope that the Club will become a welcoming home for everyone where one will be able to receive answers to questions that arise; where one can share both happy and sad moments since we are aware of all kinds of days when breeding dogs. We hope it will also be a place for open-minded people who are willing to learn, who have not forgotten their starts, wanting and having the patience to share their knowledge and ready for warm communication based on mutual respect. The core team of the Club hopes to build up a solid basis for long-term activities of the Club which would include improving the English bulldog’s health and the Lithuanian breeders’ reputation as well as the emotional atmosphere at the show rings and also behind them. We do believe that with the help and pro-active participation of each and one of us, lovers of the English bulldog in Lithuania will be able to enjoy healthy pets, great show results, and helpful communication with peers.
