The Eternal Dharma Light (Fumetsu no Hōtō) is a sacred flame that has been continuously burning for over 1,200 years since the time of Dengyō Daishi Saichō, the founder of Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei. It is considered a highly important and spiritual flame in Japanese Buddhism.

Project Mission
Shingeji Temple was founded in the 1950s with the mission of sharing Buddhist teachings for the benefit of living people. In July 1998, thanks to the dedication of the late head priest Shiba Saijyo, the temple was granted a portion of the Eternal Dharma Light from Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei. For the past 25 years, this sacred flame has been carefully preserved to continue illuminating the world with the wisdom of Buddhism.
Currently, the Eternal Dharma Light is enshrined on the second floor of the Kannon Hall, which is not open to the public.
In today’s uncertain world, we wish to allow more people to experience the spiritual purification and blessings of this sacred flame.
To achieve this, we plan to:
Renovate the entrance of the Kannon Hall, which has deteriorated over time.
Construct the Hōtō Hall, a dedicated space where visitors can pray before the Eternal Dharma Light.
By making the Dharma Light accessible to the public, we hope to guide people in their life’s journey and provide them with spiritual protection. We sincerely ask for your kind support to help us pass down this sacred light to future generations.
