Throughout my childhood, and into my adolescent years, I have always been involved in extracurricular activities. This started with competitive swimming, scouts, grassroots athletics, and led to The Young Canadians School of Performing Arts. Through high school, college, and university I worked many jobs in order to finance my post-secondary education. These jobs included: lifeguard/swim instructor, physiotherapy assistant, classroom aide, tutor, and production/stage manager assistant. In addition to working, during my first two years of college I was also a varsity athlete for Mount Royal College’s swim team on both academic and athletic scholarship. I completed my undergraduate education in 2007, receiving my Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Dance.
During my university career, and the employment opportunities along the way, I have been fortunate enough to work for employers such as the Salvation Army, Family Leisure Centre, Talisman Health and Wellness Centre, City of Calgary, Panther Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, a number of tutoring companies, and of course the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. Each of these employers has had a part in influencing my career aspirations, while also allowing me to work in diverse work environments alongside varieties of colleagues and professionals.
Other accomplishments that I am proud of, and feel have taught me many lifelong skills, would be my continued involvement with the Young Canadians School of Performing Arts, as well as being a part of Calgary’s Ukrainian Community as a dancer with Suzirya Ukrainian Dance Theatre. Since 2005 my involvement with Suzirya has taken me on performance tours across Canada, the US, and Australia, not to mention meeting and interacting with Ukrainian Communities from all around the world. This passion for the arts and culture has been responsible for other endeavors of mine. After completing my degree I felt it important to continue my purists in the fine arts, so in the interest of staying ‘well-rounded’ I kept up my training and acquired a paid seven month contract with Princess Cruises out of LA. This experience as a performer was particularly special, because it allowed me to meet and work with people from all parts of the globe. It also gave me the opportunity to visit additional new places and destinations outside of Canada, while at the same time repaying my student loans. I value the experiences I took away from working on the seas, and feel it adds yet another aspect to me as a lifelong learner.
Although my background before these experiences were primarily in the sciences and sport, I have always believed in maintaining a level of balance in one’s life. These days I still train, audition, and perform for shows in and outside of Calgary, such as Cirque du Soleil, Theatre Calgary, and other production companies. My most recent teaching experience has been with the Calgary Separate School District at Bishop Carroll, Bishop Grandin, and Father Lacombe High School their Math and Science Departments; as well as tutoring for The Young Canadians School of Performing Arts and Calgary Tutoring Centre.
Currently, I now work as a science and math teacher for the Calgary Separate School District. I have been referred to as a highly energetic/creative individual with many years experience within education, fitness-related instruction/rehabilitation, high performance athletics, and professional productions. I have an intuitive and thorough understanding of learning principles, bio-mechanics, and sport related injury. In addition, I possess the ability to work with all demographics of people in diverse situations. I hope you enjoyed my short autobiography, and I thank you for reading.
