We have made an attempt to trace the historical past of our tharavad. It goes back to the days when kings ruled the land. Here we present a brief compilation of the history of Kuttiyat Keloth tharavad by Sri K K Patmanabhan Nambiar.
" Kuttiyat Keloth is one of the ancient Tharavad of Chirakkal Taluk (Now Kannur Dist). In those days, Nairs were mostly employed as warriors. The Kolathiri Kings engaged a few Nair families from Kuttiyadi in Kadathanad to increase his fighting force. They were given land and were settled at a place that was later known as Kuttiyattoor.
This Tharavad was originally in Maniyoor and later shifted to Munderi near the Southern bank of the stream that separated Maniyoor and Munderi. Now the Theyyam or Thampuratti, the presiding Deity of the Tharavad is being celebrated in the front courtyard of the Tharavad on the new moon day of Thulam (Oct-Nov).
Now there are only two branches (Thavazhi) and the Chandroth branch flourished at Chandroth house on Paticharekkaramel of Iruvankai Vayal. The present mansion was built by Kunhikannan Nambiar for his daughter Chiruthai (Thampai). Thampai delivered a female child and was named Narayani. Quite unfortunately Thampai died at an early age of about twenty and her child Narayani was only about 8 months old then.
Narayani was brought up lovingly but under tough circumstances by her Adhikari uncles. Later she was married to Kombilath Chandu Nambiar an English educated Government Employee. She was blessed with ten children, eight male and two female. She had a long life of 95 years may be (as she herself used to say) to compensate her mother’s early demise.
Rest of the history most of us know and here we present the details of the family get together, a very happy and memorable endeavour. Thanks, to God , to all who made it happen and to all who made it a grand success. "
