Let's start with Kim Chernin. Kim's father was Paul Kusnitz of Waterbury, Connecticut. Kim is a prolific author. Her books about her parents and her relationship with them, In My Mother's House and In My Father's Garden: A Daughter's Search for a Spiritual Life are a good read. Her parents were communists, and went even went to Moscow in the 30's to help build the subway.
Gary Grossman is a co-owner of Weller Grossman Productions, whose website itself is quite a production. They make
shows for cable and educational television. Gary personally revived Superman. His bio tells the story. Gary's mother, Evelyn Kusinitz Grossman, grew up in Newport, RI. Gary was a host at the Kusinitz family reunion in LA in 2003. By the way, I am sure he takes off the shades in the shower. That;s Hollywood! Update:2012 Gary is a succesful mystery writer, so far he has written two policatal thrillers Executive Actions and Executive Treason which have been well received by the critics and the public. We look forward to the movies! Learn more at his website, http://www.garygrossman.com/ . And to think I knew him when. When Gary was a kid he was visiting his grandfather in Newport. Gary was brought to visit the Ginsburgs on Holten avenue. Nearby were some circa WWII concrete structures surrounded by tall grass, including a one story structure we called the Alamo, a couple of gun emplacements that were connected underground by tunnels, and a Quonset hut. He joined us as we had a great time running through the maze of paths. This was before ticks seem to transmit so many diseases...or at least before we knew. I had only the haziest idea of who Gary was at the time. Gary reminded me about this at the 2001 family reunion...probably when I was wondering if we had met.
Our cousin Richard Fein founded the placement office at the Isenberg School of Management The University of Massachusetts in Amherst Massachusetts. His books about getting a job are both informative and fun. He also writes from the employers point of view such as "Hiring Mistakes Employers Make and How to Avoid Them." One of my favorite titles is "The Baby Boomer's Guide to the New Workplace." Written in 2006, it certainly remains apropos. He used to tell me I was too young to read it, but I have not heard that lately. Richard's mother Celia (my father's twin) was born in Dokshitsy, and came to Newport RI in 1921. Richard grew up in Philadelphia.
Alan Kusinitz is a New York antitrust lawyer who grew up in Newport. He gave a thoughtful and informative interview about antitrust issues with high tech, where he tells it like it is.
