FAQs

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, anyone can be hypnotised provided they want to be. No one can be hypnotised against their will. Contrary to what many people think, hypnosis is a natural state that most people drift in and out of naturally every day, as an example driving home from work and not having the slightest recollection of the journey.

Can hypnotherapy help me?

If you are committed to your desired goal, then the likelihood is that hypnotherapy will help you. It is important to remember that hypnotherapy is not a magic cure but as long as you are willing to work in partnership with me to achieve your goals, then a successful outcome is likely.

Will I be asleep?

No, contrary to popular belief, you are not asleep during hypnosis. You are fully aware of what is happening and what is being said to you. Hypnotic trance is a sleep like state, most similar to the relaxed feeling you have before falling asleep. During the hypnotic session you will have your eyes closed but you will be aware of everything happening to and around you.

Will the therapist control my mind?

No, this is a common misconception. Hypnotherapy is all about you having more control of your own mind, so the client is the one who has control. Everything that is said during hypnosis is for the clients benefit, but if the client didn't agree with anything their mind would just reject it. The clinical hypnotherapist doesn’t have any power over the client’s subconscious mind.

How do stage hypnotists control people’s minds?

They actually don’t. If someone volunteers to be hypnotised by a stage hypnotist they know what is going to happen. They know they are going to be made an object of fun for entertainment purposes, but they are in for a laugh and happy to go along with it. Stage hypnosis is most of the time set-up for the mere purpose of entertainment. No stage hypnotists or clinical hypnotherapists have control over anyone’s mind.

Are there any side effects?

No, there are absolutely no negative side effects from being hypnotised. It is a perfectly safe and natural way of using your own inner resources to reorganise your thoughts and behaviours to bring about beneficial change. After the session you will feel very relaxed, but it's completely safe to drive or operate machinery.

Can I get stuck in a trance?

No, it's impossible to get stuck in a trance. You can open your eyes at any time during the session, ending the hypnotic state immediately. Sometimes clients feel so relaxed that they feel a little reluctant to end the sensation, but they never stay in a trance.

Will I tell you something I don't want you to know?

No, you remain in control the whole time.  Clinical hypnotherapy is a verbal therapy where the therapist does most of the talking anyway. The therapist may ask you questions before or during the therapy, but as you are in full control throughout, you will pass on only the information that you really want to share with the therapist.

How will I feel during hypnosis?

You will feel very relaxed as though you are in a trance-like dreamy state, but you can expect to remain aware and in control during treatment. You may find yourself drifting into sleep or daydreaming and it is fine if this happens, as your subconscious mind will still be listening and absorbing the hypnotic suggestions.

How many sessions will I need?

Every patient is different and hypnotherapy treatments are tailored to the needs of each individual. My aim is to treat you in the most efficient manner possible, so that you can get on with your life as soon as possible. On average most people need between 3 – 4 sessions. For smoking, a single session usually proves successful, however I offer a free booster session a few weeks later, as and when needed. Most cases require 3 sessions, weight loss and comfortable child birth cases usually require 4 sessions.
