I am a financial economist working at the intersection of academic research and institutional investment practice.
Current roles
Professor of Finance and Head of the Institute for Finance, FHNW School of Business — since 2023
Chief Investment Officer, Remaco Asset Management — since 2023
Board Member, Swiss Society for Financial Market Research, and Co-Editor of Financial Markets and Portfolio Management — since 2024
At Remaco Asset Management I built an evidence-based portfolio management framework and translated it into an investable product, the Remaco World Portfolio. At FHNW I lead a team of 15 and designed the school's new MSc Finance programme, which takes its first intake in September 2026.
My research covers empirical asset pricing, international finance, and the investment behaviour of financial institutions, with publications in the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Journal of Monetary Economics. Previously I was Full Professor at the University of Neuchâtel, where I directed the MSc Finance programme, and Assistant Professor at the University of Basel. I worked at ZEW Mannheim and began my career with a banking apprenticeship at Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken. I hold a PhD in Finance from the University of Mannheim. My teaching spans principles of finance, asset pricing, portfolio management, and quantitative methods.

The Evidence-Based Investor: Overcoming Investment Myths for Better Performance
Pascal Böni and Tim A. Kroencke. Palgrave Macmillan, 2025. Open access — free to read. https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-88675-1
Investing is simple in theory and difficult in practice. The book takes ten widespread beliefs about markets and portfolios, tests each one against the empirical evidence, and shows what the research actually supports and where it does not. Written for investors, advisors, and students who want the evidence rather than the sales pitch.
The same approach underpins the portfolio management framework I built at Remaco Asset Management, implemented in the Remaco World Portfolio.
