NEW 2020-2021 – The Francis Howell School District has adopted a new phonics program called Benchmark that has focused phonics lessons that begin in kindergarten and build through each grade level. Students will not see traditional spelling tests like they may have seen in past years. Learning is designed to give students a solid, foundational understanding of a phonics pattern rather than having them memorize the spelling of a set few amount of words per week.

The words listed on this document will not be tested each week, rather they are sample words that follow the phonics patterns that will be taught each week.
It is still beneficial to read, write, and spell words at home that follow the phonics pattern of the week. Students can use the free features on Spelling City to continue working with such words at home.
