Kumar Pakki Bharani Chandra is currently a Professor and Head of the Department at EECE, GITAM, Visakhapatnam, India. He also holds the additional position of Director of the Centre for Autonomous Systems at GITAM, Visakhapatnam.
He attended Kendriya Vidyalaya and MGM Sr Sec School, both located in Bhilai, India. He received a B.Tech from the JNTU, Hyderabad, India, M.Tech from the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, India, and Ph.D from the University of Leicester, U.K., in 2003, 2005 and 2013, respectively. He received a scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India, during his M.Tech and a scholarship from the UK-India Education Research Initiative (UKIERI) to study for a Ph.D at the University of Leicester, UK. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Exeter, UK from 2013-2016
He was a professor, Head - of EEE, and institute research coordinator at GMRIT, Rajam, from 2016-21. Before joining the Ph.D, for a short term, he worked as a research/project assistant at the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IISc, Bangalore, and at IIT-Bombay, India. He was also a Team lead at Control Systems Group at Coral Digital Technologies (P) Ltd., Bangalore. He co-supervised a few MEng and MSc students' projects at the University of Leicester. He has published a few papers in refereed conferences and journals. His current research interests include control systems design, state estimation, and robotics.
He was a part of many international research projects, including UKIERI, GARTEUR, EU-FP7 RECONFIGURE, etc. He has been involved as a PI/Co-PI/mentor of sponsored research projects from ISRO (RESPOND), DRDO, IIT-G, IIT-H, and DST worth Rs. 8 Crores.
