Bay of Islands Shipping Arrivals and Departures: November 1840-December 1860

Tabulates all known ship arrivals at the Bay of Islands between November 1840-December 1860. During these years Kororareka/Russell went from being New Zealand's most important port and European town to become a minor northern port. It was still visited in relatively large numbers by the American whaling fleet during these years.

Whangamumu Whaling Film

Film of old style open boat whaling. This film was shot in 1933 by Stacy Woodard, who won an Oscar in 1935. These short sequences, the only known Woodard Whangamumu film to survive, were included in a Hollywood production called I Conquer The Sea (1936).
