Thesis elaboration

If you are interested to do thesis under my supervision, read following page and start your part of the worklow by sending me the Motivation & experience info as mentioned below. If you have any question feel free to ask any questions.

8 rules:

1. Report to your supervisor on regular basis
2. Create realistic tasks schedule and announce any delays in advance
3. Keep your tasks schedule up to date
4. Place all your work into shared workspace
5. Do the practical part first, then write the text of the thesis (Otherwise you throw most of the text away, trust me)
1. Be creative, bring your ideas
   1. Make sure you have clear picture what you want to do, and what the goals are
   2. Remember: it is your thesis and your responsibility ;)

Apply for the topic: && Motivation & experience info:

Send me an email with content described in Motivation & experience info artifact defined below.

Fill basic info into workspace: && Create tasklist, checkpoints schedule:

1. In gDocs create folder named "Thesis - <Student's name> <Thesis name>"

2. Open THIS TEMPLATE, click "copy this document", rename it to "Thesis workspace - <Student's name> <Thesis name>", put in created folder

3. Fill the your copy of the template and share with me (kolar.jiri@gmail.com), set me as an OWNER of the document. Make sure both document and whole folder is shared!

Elaborate tasks:

Work on tasks according to your tasklist and always update tasklist.

Submit checkpoint report & artifacts

1. Put all artifacts into shared folder (or proper links to them to Main document)

2. Update tasklist status of elaborated tasks.

3. Send me an email concluding: What have you done in this iteration, overall progress, Serious problems (if there are any), significant changes in tasklist (if there are any), Request for any extra help.

Artifacts:

• Motivation & experience info - send by email - should consist of following points:
  • Why is student particulary interested in this topic
  • Semester of studies, in how many semesters student plan to finish studies
  • Which courses related to thesis topic student passed
  • Experience with topic-related technologies
  • Work experience commercial environment
  • Your Google ID (xxx@gmail.com or any email address you use as secondary Gmail address)
• Thesis topic specification describe briefly aim, goals and context of the topic (Provided by supervisor)
• Shared Workspace: Network accesible workspace where Supervisor and student collaborate
  • One Google Docs document containing Basic information, tasklist, checkpoints schedule and any thesis text produced by student (Template provided by supervisor)
  • Google Docs folder or other online storage for other artifacts (pictures, code.....)
• Tasklist & checkpoint schedule: Tasklist and checkpoints for each iteration defined according to given stucture (Template provided)
• Checkpoint Report and Deliverables: Report of work done within last checkpoint and deliverables requested for the iteration
