Communicant, 2022/10

Instead of publishing a printed Communicant this month, Mike thought he would instead just send out this listing of October events for our focus along with other messages and information.

Please take a few minutes to read through each item. Thanks for doing that.

1. Knights call to action: We all have seen and heard about the St. Pius X's CATHOLICISM program from Word on Fire being offered starting in October and running then two or three times monthly through February 2023. It is being co-coordinated by Deacon Pat and D J. Penza. My appeal to you is that if you haven't already signed up to participate, please consider doing so. Let's have strong and visible St. Pius X Knights participation in this sure to be moving and important parish initiative..

2. October Men's Holy Hour at Pax Christi: Holy Hour participation is a special focus of the Knights. We have an opportunity every month, on the first Sunday of the month, beginning at 4 PM to participate in a Men's Holy Hour led by Deacon Mike Zaccariello at Pax Christi Church. This month's Holy hour will be this Sunday, October 2nd at 4 PM. If you indicated an interest in participating in these Holy Hours in the council program survey we sent out last year, you already have received a reminder about this Holy Hour. But I encourage all to try to attend when you can. Why not this month?

3. Walk and Pray with our council during these "40 Days for Life": Our St. Pius X Council has a long standing tradition of walking and praying to end abortion in front of Planned Parenthood on the 7th Street NW sidewalk during the National "40 Days for Life" fall campaign. Although Rochester no longer is a sponsoring city for the formal campaign, our council continues to commit to participate by walking and praying one night per week during the campaign for 1 hour. Again this year we have selected Monday evening from 6-7 PM. The national fall campaign this year runs from September 28 through November 6. That means our St. Pius X Council's first scheduled walk will be Monday, October 3. We will continue to gather then each Monday throughout October -- again always at 6 PM. Those who indicated an interest in participating in this "Life" council initiative in our program survey have already received a reminder. But all are welcome. How about you? We generally walk and enjoy one another's company while praying the rosary -- usually twice. Those interested do not have to attend every Monday -- only when they wish. They also don't have to attend the full hour. If they can join only for the first half hour or only the second they surely will participate in one of the rosaries. We've also invited Knights from other councils and any St. Pius X parishioners who wish to join us to do so. Let's try to fill up the sidewalk as we pray to end abortion.

4. Our council's fall Highway Cleanup: Coordinator, Mark Zangs, has scheduled our annual fall highway cleanup with the Troop 210 Scouts for Saturday, October 8. Those who can help that day should meet in Charlie's Eatery and Pub parking lot at 8:30 AM to depart to the site. Depending on the numbers, cleanup is usually done in a couple hours or so. Those who indicated an interest in participating in this program in our survey will be receiving an invitation email from Mark. But it's a fun morning, doing feel good work and getting good exercise in the company of our brother Knights so join us if you can. "Many hands make quick work". If you are interested give Mark a call.

5. October Birthdays: Happy Birthday to these brother Knights celebrating birthdays in October!
