In addition to sharing your bird observations with other members of Klamath Basin Bird News, consider submitting your observations as data to the international eBird project:

Once you've created an account with eBird, the process for submitting observations is simple and fun. Remember to provide as much detail as possible about your observations so that your data is as useful as possible. Here are a couple pages with some useful tips:

One note about choosing locations that represent the spatial footprint of your checklist -- Be sure to use already established "Hotspot" locations whenever possible to avoid unnecessary duplication of locations in the system. When submitting a checklist, use the "Find it on a Map" link to show the Hotspots in a given county. There are already a bunch of Hotspot locations for our region that have been set up for the most popular areas. Another important sub-note -- The "Find it on a Map" portal will only show Hotspots for the state that includes the county you chose. So, for example, if you enter Klamath County, OR, you will not see any Hotspots for Siskiyou or Modoc County, CA. This can be important for the lower Basin refuges, and you may need to go back and choose a new county in a different state to be sure you are seeing the right set of Hotspots.
When you finish submitting a checklist, you can have the report emailed to you so that you can copy and paste the data into an email message to Klamath Basin Bird News. The email you get from eBird will look something like that below. Slick, eh? No more typing bird species names into email messages!
Location: Bear Valley Eagle Flyout
Observation date: 3/14/09
Number of species: 3
Bald Eagle 38
Rough-legged Hawk 1
