Resources for writing good papers:
How to write a good introduction (by Timothy Taylor). Yes, you should spend a ton of time on your introduction. Introduction and abstract are the most important assets of your paper. They will not help you if the idea is bad, however, you can burry a brilliant idea by writing poor abstract and introduction. Been there, done that, and I still struggle with this. It's painful and time consuming but the marginal value of time is probably highest here.
