Science + Comedy

CDM Lab director Heather Kirkorian has participated in several science communication events organized by comedian Shane Mauss. She joined Shane, fellow UW professor C. Shawn Green, and comedian Nick Hart for the first ever Stand-Up Science in Madison. She later sat down with Shane for his Here We Are Podast. Most recently, Heather joined Shane, fellow UW professor Catalina Toma, and comedian Ken Reid for a special live recording of the Here We Are podcast during the Wisconsin Science Festival.

Toddlers and Interactive Apps

Dr. Kirkorian talked with the Child Trends News Service for their Positive Parenting Newsfeed. The interview highlighted findings from our first touchscreen studies. Within the first 3 months of distribution, this TV spot was picked up by at least 18 networks nationwide with a potential viewership of 283,000. Background TV Affects Kids' Play

In her second interview for the Child Trends News Service Positive Parenting Newsfeed, Dr. Kirkorian talked about her most recent research on background TV, play, and parent-child interactions. This TV spot was distributed to more than 100 networks nationwide. You can also read the study here.

Summer of COVID: Tots and Tech

Dr. Kirkorian recently gave a talk as part of a "Tots and Tech" virtual discussion with Children and Screens: Institute of Digital Media and Child Developments.
