Artist Interview: The Jazz Passengers

The Jazz Passengers are an eight member ensemble that has been performing a joyful style of jazz for 25 years. Their inventive repertoire includes, hard bop, avant-garde and free bop in a way that mixes the poetic depth of Shakespeare and the of the musical influences of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers–their name is a playful homage. Their compositions reside in the worlds of storytelling and music. Humor, experimentation and an evident love of of jazz have made these guys one of the most lively, innovative, and entertaining jazz bands performing today. You can check out their latest work on their new album, Reunited. You can also spend an evening with these eclectic jazz merrymen, when they come to the PDX Jazz Festival on February 19, at the
Winningstad Theatre at 7pm.
