Background
Dr. King Yoong Lim (in short, King) is a Senior Associate Professor in Economics, effective Jan 2026. King holds a RFIS-II grant awarded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (国家自然科学基金委员会), valued at a direct cost of RMB580,000, and has received one of the 2025 SIP Research Backbone Talent Award (2025 科创区教科骨干人才), valued at of RMB30,000. Prior to joining IBSS, XJTLU as an associate professor in April 2022, King worked as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer with the Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University between the April of year 2018 and 2022. He has also worked as a Teaching Associate at the Lancaster University Management School.
A student of the French development macroeconomist, Pierre-Richard Agénor, King's primary research interests are in energy economics, innovation strategies (both macro & micro), and more broadly, development macroeconomics. His publication includes articles in ABS3/ABDC-A (and above) journals, such as Research Policy, Journal of Banking & Finance, Energy Economics. King is also an active participant in the wider research and policy community. He currently serves as an Associate Editor with the journal, Economic Issues (ABS 1; ABDC-B), and was formerly its associate editor-in-chief. Previously, between 2022-24, he also served as the external assessor of REF 2028 macroeconomics output for Swansea University, UK.
A three-time STC Consultant with the World Bank Group, King has previously contributed to Malaysias Capital Market Masterplan 2, National Innovation Strategy (and its associated GLC Innovation Transformation Programme), and was the Lead Consultant in implementing the Phase I review of the Kenya Revenue Authorities’ national tax revenue forecasting framework in year 2019. In 2013, I have also co-authored with former World Bank chief economist (Africa), Albert Zeufack, in writing the policy-oriented book, "Can Malaysia Achieve Innovation-led Growth?", published by Khazanah Nasional, Malaysia.
