TEACHING AND CURRICULUM DESIGN: Apply brain-based pedagogy based on training at workshops and conferences to curriculum design and classroom teaching, including UbD framework. Areas of research include emotion and cognition, the role of prediction, and other neuroscience findings as they relate to perseverance, curiosity, and self-reflection.
Consulting: School-wide consultant/trainer for curriculum and Atlas Rubicon (January - August 2013). Curriculum designer for middle school and upper school history courses (November 2011 - August 2012).
Teaching: History 9, Global Turning Points, September 2013-present. History 8, The City, September 2012-June 2013.
ADVISORY: Facilitate one advisory per year and serve on the advisory design committee (ESR, Responsive Classroom).
ADMINISTRATION: Coordinator of Community and Experiential Learning. Working across all divisions, Nursery to Upper School, to develop, facilitate, and promote service learning and engagement opportunities (September 2012 - present).
-- Earliest featured programs include the now ongoing "Project Gratitude," a school-wide response to Hurricane Sandy, including a food drive, a partnership with an elementary school in Coney Island, and a fundraiser. In year one, also launched the first annual Project Cicero and AIDS Walk Avenues Team.
-- Co-creation of the ACE (Avenues Community Engagement) curriculum, including opportunities for reflection and student voice as architects of their roles in the local and global community. Regular consultation with administration, parents, and colleagues. Design and execution of the first of two off-site community days for the Upper School.
-- Internal culture building includes music jams and buddy relationships across grades, and the establishment of a GSA.
Riverdale Country School
Bronx, New York. September 2011 - June 2012.
--Grades 6 and 7 History Faculty (Full Time).
--Worked closely with administration on character education;
featured in NBC news program about "grit".
--Helped to rewrite Riverdale's Grade 6 history curriculum during
a one-year sabbatical replacement before beginning work
at Avenues in November, 2011.
--Fostered interdisciplinary connections in the middle school, including coordination of the Brooklyn Bridge Project, which involved English, history, math, and science teachers.
