about me: I am an interdisciplinary scholar with a home in Communication and interests in new media, mobility, infrastructure, and television. I hold a PhD in Communication, Rhetoric, & Digital Media from North Carolina State University. My dissertation focused on the informationalization of infrastructure with a particular focus on smart and critical infrastructure.
I am excited about the recent publication of my coauthored book, The Prison House of the Circuit: Politics of Control from Analog to Digital (2023) published by University of Minnesota Press. The book was written collaboratively by six people: Jeremy Packer, Paula Nuñez de Villavicencio, Alex Monea, Kate Maddalena, Joshua Reeves, and myself.
I have been an Adjunct in at Villanova University since 2013 and am currently teaching Theories of Organizational Communication and Graduate New Media (Spring 2025)!

I am interested in the way that terms such as "smart" have been used to build a vision of a world made better with information technologies. It's been 15 years and am still waiting for the Smarter Planet to arrive :)
