Professional

tech geek - wordsmith - educator - intentional musician

Objective

I am looking to further an extensive experience as a technology geek and educator.

I am a seasoned programmer, analyst, designer, and technical architect; an exuberant instructor, mentor, curriculum developer, and instructional designer; an effective writer, communicator, liaison, and conference presenter; an observant, improvising musician; an emergent interpretive naturalist and outdoor educator; and above all a voracious learner. I have worked with people around the world, both in-person and remotely, across barriers of language and time, covering many industries and types of business, both inward- and outward-facing, and ranging from teams small and large to solo gigs.

I love all of that, and am looking for the right fit to do even more of it.

Summary

I have had several careers. The longest (really multiple careers in series) has been as a consultant, architect, developer, mentor, and educator, most recently in the enterprise portal space, with a deep specialty in IBM Web Experience Factory (going back to 2001) and IBM WebSphere Portal, and previously in Lotus Notes/Domino (going back to 1994). This work has been both onsite and remote, across many industries and geographies, both customer-facing and internal, and has varied from solo jobs to multi-tiered teams at various levels of contract engagement. A notable feature of my work has been to bundle mentoring along with development or education.

I've also had a career as an education technologist, at both the college and K-12 level. For Kenai Peninsula College, I focused on e-learning in both fully asynchronous and hybrid formats, using various tools including content portals, video editing, and related tools. This work featured a great deal of bringing groups of people together, and the extra challenge of working within Alaska's logistical and geographic limitations. For the Kenai Peninsula K-12 School District, I have embraced the support and administrative side of a pretty wide variety of in-use technology, and leaned on my background as a teacher to bridge the gap that sometimes exists between technologists and educators.

Finally, I have worked less formally with individual students of the mandolin and guitar, most often to help build an approach to chord construction and improvising; and with individual students of the rifle and pistol, most often to help build a solid technique in safe and efficient field handling, rather than only marksmanship.
