Located in The Pas Manitoba, Kelsey Community School is an elementary school and has students from Kindergarten to Grade 5. Our school motto is "Hands are for Helping". In keeping with this motto, students are expected to Respect Each Other, Respect Belongings and Respect School Property.

Supervision on the playground begins at 8:30 and the bell rings at 8:45. Classes begin at 8:55. Lunch is at 12:00, with the exception of kindergarten whose lunch is at 11:30 (though students in grades 3-5 who stay for lunch have lunch recess at 12:00 and lunch at 12:30). Recess times are 10:30am & 2:30pm.

The Kelsey Community School building was built in three stages: ten classrooms in 1958, eight classrooms in 1961 and an adjoining wing in 1972 which included administrative offices, staff work areas, a large gymnasium, a multi-purpose room, kindergarten areas, seminar rooms, a science room (now the staff room), an art room, a resource centre with a reading pit and a ten classroom count open area. In 1990 the open area was renovated to seven closed classrooms, an A.V. storage facility and expanded library facility.

Kelsey Community School is thrilled to share that a member of our staff is being recognized at a national level. Myrna Ducharme, one of our grade 5 teachers was recently informed that she was nominated and is being recognized by Indspire. Indspire is an Indigenous Education Award that recognizes Indigenous Educators, one Indigenous organization and one non-Indigenous educator who have made valuable contributions to community based education and who honor the principles of Indigenous knowledge. Mrs. Ducharme is being recognized in the Indigenous educator category.

Kelsey Community School Drop off and Pick Up

Kelsey Community School asks that all parents and guardians dropping off and picking up children to please use caution. These times are very busy and we do not want to see a child get hurt.

Please ensure you are following the recommendation below.

-Do not stop in the middle of the street to let your child out of the car.

-When pulling over to park, please do not park on the sidewalk on either side of the street on Hogan, Settee or Stewart Street.

-If you are on the opposite side of the street, please escort your child across the street.

-Ensure you are watching for the school bus and not passing busses if their stop sign is out.

-With students entering at different entrances, I realize it is difficult, but we do ask that families use the parent parking lot on Hogan as much as possible.

Thank you so much for expected cooperation in this safety matter.

Hello Kelsey Parents/Guardians;

We are thrilled so many of you have established ways of staying in touch with your child’s teacher (email, remind app, class DOJO etc.), however we do ask that you ALWAYS PHONE THE SCHOOL, for the following reasons. Often, teachers are not able to check their phones or devices during the school day.

Phone the school if:

-Your child will be away or late from school for the day

-The end of day plans change for your child (someone different is picking them up, your child has permission to walk home, they will not be taking the bus etc.)

-You will be picking your child up from school early for any particular reason

-Your child has an appointment and will need to leave school

-Lastly, if you are calling the school to change the end of day plans for your child, please try to contact the school prior to 3:00.

Thank you everyone,

Mr. Marin
