Hello Kelsey Parents/Guardians;

We are thrilled so many of you have established ways of staying in touch with your child’s teacher (email, remind app, class DOJO etc.), however we do ask that you ALWAYS PHONE THE SCHOOL, for the following reasons. Often, teachers are not able to check their phones or devices during the school day.

Phone the school if:

-Your child will be away or late from school for the day

-The end of day plans change for your child (someone different is picking them up, your child has permission to walk home, they will not be taking the bus etc.)

-You will be picking your child up from school early for any particular reason

-Your child has an appointment and will need to leave school

-Lastly, if you are calling the school to change the end of day plans for your child, please try to contact the school prior to 3:00.

Thank you everyone,

Mr. Marin

Better Education Starts Today: You’re invited to the Frontier, Kelsey, Flin Flon and Mystery Lake Region Parent Virtual Meeting on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Parents and caregivers have an important collective voice in the education system in Manitoba. The Parent Engagement Task Force, formed as part of the Better Education Starts Today (BEST) strategy, wants to hear from you on the important topic of parent engagement and what supports your school community requires to strengthen it.

Since the launch of the Better Education Starts Today (BEST) strategy, the Minister and the Department of Education have been speaking with stakeholders across the province about how we can ensure governance, accountability for results, quality learning and outcomes, future-ready students, and excellence in teaching and leadership throughout Manitoba’s education system.

The Parent Engagement Task Force was established to guide public input and provide advice to the government on how to move forward with parent engagement as a key component of the BEST strategy. As a parent and caregiver, the Parent Engagement Task Force wants to hear from you on the following:

What currently works in our community to get parents and caregivers engaged and keep them engaged?

What are the barriers to parents and caregivers being more engaged at our schools?

What supports will School Community Councils need to do their job?

Please register to join the task force for this online virtual meeting and share your views.

When: Wednesday, June 16, 2021

Time: 6 to 7 p.m.

Link to Register: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwocuqoqz0qGNZyeD_eyDolTImqLpnUyhD4

Please advise when registering if you need specific accommodations to participate in this event. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Other engagement opportunities will be available at EngageMB.ca in the near future.

Thank you for your continued commitment in helping to build the best education system for our children. If you have any questions, please email Manitoba Education at edutransformation@gov.mb.ca.

Good evening Kelsey parents & guardians;

In light of the recent discovery at the Kamloops residential school site, Kelsey Community School would like to recognize the children and the families that have been lost or impacted by the residential school system over the last century. Tomorrow, on May 31st, we are asking that our staff and students wear an Orange T-shirt to show our support for all those that have been impacted by the residential school system.

This last week, our wonderful parent council recognized all Kelsey staff with a luncheon and daily draws to various local businesses. The staff would like to extend our gratitude and thanks! The lunch was fantastic and the 16 staff that won the gift cards were all appreciative. Thank you so much for thinking of us, especially during this challenging year. We appreciate all that you do for the students and staff of Kelsey!

Mr. Marin

School Principal

Hello and welcome to all of our future kindergarten students and their families! Due to the pandemic, we are not able to hold our usual Welcome to Kindergarten evening this year, so we have created this great video for all of you.

We hope you find the video informative and helpful. After watching the video, if you still have any questions or concerns regarding kindergarten or Kelsey Community School, please do not hesitate to call the school anytime at 204-623-7421.

If you have not registered your child for kindergarten yet, or know of someone who has not registered their child, please do so, as spots are filling up!

Lastly, beginning today, (May 17th) we have a Welcome to Kindergarten bag filled with all kinds of fun and educational supplies for your child. Be sure to come by Kelsey School (using the front entrance) to get your free bag of goodies! We look forward to seeing all of our new kindergarten faces in the fall.

Located in The Pas Manitoba, Kelsey Community School has students from Kindergarten to Grade 5. Our school motto is "Hands are for Helping". In keeping with this motto, students are expected to Respect Each Other, Respect Belongings and Respect School Property.

Supervision on the playground begins at 8:30 and the bell rings at 8:45. Classes begin at 8:55. Lunch is at 12:00, with the exception of kindergarten whose lunch is at 11:30 (though students in grades 3-5 who stay for lunch have lunch recess at 12:00 and lunch at 12:30). Recess times are 10:30am & 2:30pm.

The Kelsey Community School building was built in three stages: ten classrooms in 1958, eight classrooms in 1961 and an adjoining wing in 1972 which included administrative offices, staff work areas, a large gymnasium, a multi-purpose room, kindergarten areas, seminar rooms, a science room (now the staff room), an art room, a resource centre with a reading pit and a ten classroom count open area. In 1990 the open area was renovated to seven closed classrooms, an A.V. storage facility and expanded library facility.

If your child consumes fish or nut products at home prior to coming to school, we would ask that you have your child wash their hands after eating.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.
