Mary Ann BARTY Mother of my Mother’s Father

Born on 17^th May 1863 in St. Mary’s Hoo, daughter of John Eaton BARTY and Susanah REED nee Simmonds who married on 12^th October 1861 in St. Mary’s Hoo.

Her Father died in June 1870 together with 2 of his children from Scarlet Fever.

Mother remarried in 1873 to Robert MUNDAY.

Mary Ann married husband 1, William WALTER in Upchurch on 23^rd September 1882

They had at least 6 children, all but one were girls:-

Alice Ethel 1884 - 1956

Winifred Clara 1886 - 1910

Eliza Mabel 1888 - 1958

Arthur John [ my Grandfather ] 1890 - 1918

Elsie May 1893 - 1986

Lilian [ seen below ] 1898 - 1979

William died in December 1907 in Erith.

Eldest daughter Alice married Herbert William HEARN at Milton in December 1905

Husband 2 was a younger man John KEMP married in Spring 1910 but killed in Chatham Dockyard 1912

Husband 3 was William KEMP no relation to Husband 2 a gardener married in 1924 at Dover.

He died by the time she married Alice’s Father in Law, Walter Henry HEARN a foreman in the Dockyard.

Husband 4 had already died when Mary Ann died on 21^st October 1946 aged 83 in Andover where I was evacuated during the final period of WWW2 having outlived 4 husbands.
