Student Recitals

2021/22 Virtual Recitals

Date: TBD

Access via a link to my Google Drive file if we must hold the recital virtually. (Usually we have been holding traditional recitals at 4:00 pm in the Third Church of Christ sanctuary located on University Avenue a few doors north of 50th St. in the University District, at 5034 University Way NE, Seattle. There is ample free off-street parking on both the north and south sides of the church. It does not pay to arrive too early since the farmers' market at University Heights across the street needs time to pack up and leave!)

Performance Classes for Spring Piano Party Recital

To my students:

If in 2022 it is safe to hold a performance class in my home studio, we will do so.

Performing in a traditional piano party recital means that you agree to attend a 30-minute Performance Class held during the week leading up to the piano party recital. All Performance Classes are held at my house. Since space is limited, I often need to limit attendance to students, parents of first-time performers, and parents of children 7 years of age or younger. In addition, beginning three weeks before a piano party recital, students should try to arrive 5 minutes early to their lessons and plan on staying 5 minutes late so as to practice performing for the students before and after them.

You may choose from among several rehearsals for the recital (all rehearsals will be held at my house). See my email to you for the exact times of the rehearsals.

Past Piano Party Recital Programs

At the fall 2010 piano party recital, Adrianna Hulscher, violinist with Seattle Symphony, was our special guest star. She and I performed local composer William Bolcom's most popular work, The Graceful Ghost. Originally he had written it as a solo piano piece, dedicated to his father, but he later rewrote it as a duet for violin and piano as a wedding present for his friend and violinist Sergiu Luca and his wife who was a pianist. My college friend, Yaron David, gave a sold-out performance in Tel-Aviv, at which I was present in the summer of 2011, in tribute to his recently deceased violin teacher, Mr. Luca. Mr. Luca had given Yaron the original score for the duet, and Yaron and his pianist, Nava Wagner, gave the Israeli premiere of this work. I knew it as a piano solo, but loved it even more as a duet with violin. So I was delighted to be able to perform it with violinist Adrianna Hulscher, at the Mirabella Retirement Home in the Denny Regrade Neighborhood in a concert given under the auspices of Ladies Musical Club which includes The Graceful Ghost, plus music by Antonin Dvorak, and Arvo Part, as well as the US premiere of Alfred Tokayer's as-yet unpublished violin/piano duet, Priere sans paroles. (By the way, Adrianna also teaches violin in my neighborhood.)
