Program Goals
Enhance a child's swimming proficiency and water confidence
Instruct students how to effectively react during an emergency situation
Obtain knowledge in various aquatic activities
Introduce a water safety component with each lesson
General Information
Students will be water-tested the first day of the aquatic unit to determine skill level and ability
Students will be required to adhere to all pool rules at all times
Class will be heterogeneously grouped
Appropriate supervision of the locker rooms will consist of the PE teacher, an aide, a lifeguard, or the Aquatic Coordinator
A certified American Red Cross Lifeguard will be on duty at all times during pool hours
Students will stay in assigned areas unless otherwise directed by their teacher
Lockers will be provided to all students to use for their time at the pool. All belongings must be taken home at the end of each swim lesson. Any belongings will be collected and brought back to school or placed at the pool lost and found
Personal hair dryers are NOT permitted. Wall mounted hand dryers are easily accessible for drying hair.
Requirements
A bathing suit
cut off shorts are not acceptable
girls must wear one-piece bathing suits
suits deemed unacceptable or unsafe by the PE teacher are not permitted
A clean towel
A plastic bag to transport wet clothing/towels each day
White tee shirts may be worn in the water as long as they do not interfere with student safety.
Swim caps are permitted, but not required
Goggle are recommended, but not required
Long hair must be tied back or placed in a cap
