Jyothsna  Belliappa

Jyothsna has several years of experience as a teacher, research scholar and writer. She has a PhD in Women's Studies from the University of York, UK . 

She has taught at The University of York and Azim Premji University where she designed and facilitated courses in gender and education, qualitative research methods and social inequality.  She has been guest faculty at the Indian Institute(s) of Management and has acted as research consultant to industry, to educational institutions and to the not-for-profit sector.

Jyothsna's areas of interest include teachers and teaching; the information technology industry; identity and the self; work, personal life and the relationship between the two. She has written and published on these subjects as well as on workplace harassment, child sexual abuse and gender in Bollywood (see a list of her publications here with links to selected articles). 

Her book Gender, Class and Reflexive Modernity in India  which discusses how middle class women create a sense of self by drawing on multiple discourses prevalent within contemporary India was published by Palgrave Macmillan, UK. 

A strong supporter of participatory methods of teaching, Jyothsna facilitates professional development workshops and mentors research scholars and teachers across primary and secondary education.   She teaches at Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bengaluru.
