Justine Mallatt is a Research Economist at the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), where she studies issues related to the measurement of economic activity in the national accounts. In this role, she has led research to improve the Healthcare Satellite Account, including work incorporating prescription drug rebates, and is developing a proposal for a Satellite Account for Human Capital. She also investigates the use of real-time spending data to enhance the timeliness and accuracy of BEA’s estimates.
Justine’s research interests span health economics, labor economics, and public economics, with a particular focus on economic measurement. Her research has been published in academic journals, and she has contributed to advancing methods for integrating big data into national accounts.
In addition to her role at BEA, Justine serves as adjunct faculty at Washington State University. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from Purdue University and a bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics from Western Washington University.
