Email: Justine[dot]Mallatt[at]bea[dot]gov. My research interests pertain to the current United States opioid crisis, as well as drug and pharmaceutical policy in general. Studying the opioid crisis combines many fields of economics, including health economics, labor economics, policy economics, and the economics of crime. I use quasi-experimental econometric techniques to identify causal relationships between policies and behavior of individuals affected by the opioid crisis.

At the BEA, I study issues related to the measurement of economic activity in the national accounts. My current projects include researching improvements to the Healthcare Satellite Account, investigating the effect of pharmaceutical rebates to PBMs in the national accounts, and measurement of human capital.
