Checking Out Books During Distance Learning

Steps for checking out books during distance learning and DLA:

We are excited to offer online check out and pick up once again during distance learning beginning the week of February 15, 2021! In order to maintain this procedure during the course of distance learning please follow the guidelines below:

1) Access our electronic card catalog here! Learn how to search for books by watching this video.

• Search for one or two books you would like to place on hold.

• To guarantee a book will be on the shelf and that you will have one to pick up, please be sure the book does not say "out" across the top of the picture.

• A maximum of 2 holds may be placed each two-week period.

2) Log into the Alexandria system using the information on the back of the card (see graphic above) that was sent home with your student.

3) Watch the hold tutorial. Or follow these directions. Passwords are not case sensitive. Place your holds! (Two book hold maximum)

Current LODL Media Center rules that apply to check out:

• Grades K-1: one book per student at a time please

• Grades 2-5: two books per student at a time please

4) What time frame do the holds need to be completed by?

• All holds need to be placed each week by 10AM Monday morning.

• Watch for an email as to when your books will be ready for pick up in the school foyer.

5) When you come to pick up your book, you will find the books alphabetically by your last name by grade level. Please do not touch other books that have been placed for pick up. Find your grade level and then your last name alphabetically. You will be able to find your name on a sheet of paper tucked in the top of the book.

6) If you miss the deadline to place your books on hold then please make sure to meet the deadline the following week. We have limited staff and cannot honor requests via email or phone at this time.

7) If you miss your pick-up time, the books will go back to the library on Wednesday of the following week to allow for circulation.

8) Please return library books to the blue box in the foyer on or before the due date. All books are due two weeks after check out.

9) Finally, keep in mind that when books come back, they must quarantined before they become available again. Also, if you are placing a book on hold that is not available, your hold will go into a que for that book and Alexandria will provide notice when a copy becomes available. Thank you!
