This site is for keeping track of my ancestors originating in Lakonia Greece and their descendants.  

 I am focusing on the family of my 4th Great Grandfather Nikolaos Tsingos Νικόλαος Τσίγκος (aka Tsigos, Tsiggos, Tsigkos, Tzigkos) from Kremasti born in the late 1700s.  A list of his descendants to his great grandchildren is below.  

There is some family lore that Nikolaos may have fled Mani and changed his name from Tsigakos to Tsingos.  The name Tsigakos is found in Mani.  There is a Tsigkou Monastery near Oitylo.  If he was from Mani, perhaps the link to the family tree (ΓΕΝΝΕΑΛΟΓΙΚΟ ΔΕΝΔΡΟ) from Zacharias Tsigakos holds connections to the middle ages and Byzantium.  Alternatively (or also) he may have been part of the Arvanites migration from Epirus near the border with Albania where the name is common.  The Arvanites migrated into the Peloponnese and Attica in the late middle ages.  Tsingos is not uncommon in other parts of Greece.
