Profile

I am a Professor (Assistant) at the School of Economics and Management, University of Porto (FEP).

My research interests are microeconomic theory, spatial economics (economic geography), and growth. I am particularly interested in the use of mathematical methods (e.g. bifurcation and group theory) for the advancement of economic theory in these fields. 

Currently, I am focusing on the application of bifurcation theory to population games in economic geography to study the formation of urban patterns around large central cities (see a related paper here).

I am also studying how regional knowledge spillovers impact the spatial distribution of activities in increasingly integrated economies (link).

I occasionally delve into methodological issues and the history of economic thought, particularly regarding how economists and geographers treat the concepts of space (geography) and time (history). You can find an overview of these issues in economic geography here.
