About

Pin Pin grew up in Malaysia where she studied and trained under The Royal Academy School of Music. Later, she received a Performance Diploma (P.C.) and a Teaching Diploma (A.T.C.L.) from Trinity College, London.

She furthered her studies in the United States, graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree from Meredith College, where she was a student of  Dr. James Clyburn. She received her Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she studied under Dr. Kenneth Drake, Reid Alexander and Christos Tsitsaros.

Pin Pin is passionate about teaching all students to play with a natural and efficient technique. She incorporates theory, music history and analysis into her lessons so that students can fully immerse in the repertoire they are playing and get a deeper understanding of each piece they are learning. She is always pivoting and trying to find the best way for students to learn a concept or to master a skill. Pin Pin is dedicated to fostering the love of music and growing students who go on to enjoy music either in a casual or formal setting.

A faculty member at Meredith College for twelve years, Pin Pin taught applied piano, class piano and many music summer camps. This gave her a unique perspective on working with various age groups. She has a natural intuition and bonding with students and the ability to discern and work on improving difficult passages in the repertoire they are playing. She spent significant time testing and evaluating methods and countless piano repertoire to find what is effective and enjoyable to students. In her studio, students learn a wide variety of repertoire and acquire the knowledge to interpret various style periods. Pin Pin honed in on intentionally practicing strategies, setting daily and weekly practice goals, and nurturing students to truly listen to their practice sessions and ask questions along the way.

Pin Pin has been a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music since 2008 and is a member of the Music Teachers National Association. She is an active member of the North Carolina Music Teachers Association, serves as the piano repertoire committee for the Young Artist Audition, was the second vice president, treasurer, and yearbook chair for The Raleigh Piano Teachers Association. Mrs. Jong is frequently asked to judge piano competitions and festivals and her students have won recognition both locally and across the state.
