As part of the review, you will be required to document your efforts to survey the literature. For each conference perused, describe the following:
The prestige
Some indications of conference prestige include the number of accepted publications, the acceptance rate, the number of attendees, the age of the conference, and the keynote speakers. For example, Mark Zuckerburg famously attended a session at NIPS.
The affiliated society
Usually a conference is organized and sponsored by a society of professionals or academics. Some conferences are intentionally interdisciplinary and open to a variety of specialities, while others cater exclusively to one field/society.
The research focus
Take a look at the call for papers, the technical program, the conference attendees, and the affiliated society. See if you can pick up on a reoccurring theme or approach to the topics discussed. Whereas an applied mathematician might see Ito's formula in every problem, a computer scientist might see a software solution to the same problem. Hence, a session like "software defined networks" might happen in several non-overlapping conferences, each with a different angle on the problem.
