I am an Associate Director at the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) in London.

I am Head of the Retirement, Savings, and Ageing sector at IFS.

My research focuses on understanding economic activity in later life, including the timing of retirement, savings for retirement and the standard of living in old age, and how these are affected by government policies.

I am one of the Directors of the IFS-led Pensions Review, a review of the future of financial security in retirment, a co-Investigator of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing. I also lead the IFS Deaton Review country studies project - a study of inequalities in Europe and North America.

I have also worked on a range of other topics relevant to UK public policy, including minimum wages and labour markets; public sector pay and spending; housing; income and wealth inequalities; the benefits system; and the economic effects the Covid-19 pandemic. From 2018-2022 I was the editor of one IFS's flagship annual reports: Living Standards, Inequality and Poverty in the UK

I received my PhD from the Department of Economics, University College London in 2020.
